Bio


I would like to acknowledge and pay my respects to the Yugambeh People,  the Traditional Custodians of the land on which I live, work and make art. I would like to pay my respects to their Elders, past, present and emerging.

Ellamay Fitzgerald (born 1992) is an Australian-Thai Photographer and Artist based on the Gold Coast. Her work explores the human condition through experimental imagery of the female form and flora, linking connections to her own cultural identity and the natural environment. Offering a female gaze, Ella uses her arts practice to challenge social norms and empower women through representing them in diverse shapes, ethnicities and backgrounds. 

Ella graduated with a Bachelor of Photography from QCA Brisbane, 2014. In her graduating student exhibition, she was awarded the Sun Studios ‘Best Image Award: Graduating student demonstrating technical and conceptual clarity within the politic of the practiced stream.’ She has continued on to exhibit her first solo exhibition ‘In Bloom’ at Hotel Miami, Gold Coast in 2018, and has exhibited in a number of group shows from 2013 - 2020. 

In 2019, Ella launched the 'Self Love Project,' offering figure photography and group shoots to women of all sizes, ages, ethnicities and backgrounds. The purpose of the project was to create a safe space for women to openly express themselves, encourage self acceptance and promote inclusivity.

She has presented works both solo and collaboratively for Bleach Festival 2020, Placemakers Gold Coast, Mint Art House, Level Up Gallery, Level One Seventeen Gallery, Running Duck Theatre Company, SUNSTUDIOS Sydney and QCA Brisbane. 

Ella is currently a Resident at Mint Art House in Burleigh Heads, Gold Coast.
